Two of the buzzwords in the last few years are Online Jobs and Piso Fare. Online freelancers do not have monopoly over this, it’s just that it is a bit easier for us because we can work from almost anywhere.
A lot of freelancers have part time jobs that is why they have time on their hands. Being able to travel is one of the perks that I enjoy because my schedule allows me to do so, occasionally.
I was able to travel to Tokyo last November 2015 for ~9K base fare for two and is one of the cheapest tickets to Japan I’ve seen so far. The route was CDO-Cebu-Tokyo then Tokyo-Cebu-CDO. We have taken advantage of these promos several times already. When a Cebu Pacific promo comes up, here’s what I do:
- Check for the long weekend within the travel period. Holidays are great opportunities to take a quick break, you do not have to file for leave, and if you have kids, they won’t miss class.
- January, February, July, and November are usually where you can find very cheap flights. These are the months where I immediately search for low fares when there is a promo, no guarantees but I’ve been relatively successful. In terms of days Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays have the most cheap flights.
- Mark your calendar! Most of the time these tickets are bought 6 to 8 months in advance and there is a tendency that you’ll forget.
- Save up. Since you have several months notice you will have time to save for your trip. Make sure to factor in baggage allowance (you need one if you travel in style), terminal fees, passport and Visa application fees, travel tax (~P1,600 if you travel overseas), and of course your accommodation ( I recommend AirBnB which is way better and cheaper than a hotel, use my referral link so you can get a discount).
There’s an ongoing promo today, so what are you waiting for?
For you guys out there who have cracked the code on the best ways to get dirt cheap airfare, please comment and share 🙂
